Benefit From the Power of Faith (Questing w/God Series)

power of faith

We can fulfill our destiny under God with the power of faith.

But what is faith? … A force or personal power we can use to get whatever we want? And what is the focus of faith? Goals? A personal dream? The promises of God? Or is it more?

This article is part 3 of the Questing with God series. Abraham is a touchstone for us — the original pattern of faith. Question: What’s possible in your life?

We Live By the Power of Faith

“Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain; When he was one I called him, then I blessed him and multiplied him” (Isaiah 51:2 NASB).

Abraham came to know the True God. He obeyed the call, going forth to possess an inheritance.

He lived by faith as an “alien” … in circumstances and surroundings which were not yet aligned to the promises of God (Hebrews 11:8-10). Abraham is a Faith-Precedent for us. He lived by faith in God.

Habakkuk 2:4 is a foundation verse for New Covenant Reality – “The just shall live by his faith” (NKJV).

I believe this Old Testament verse is the most quoted by New Testament writers (see Romans 1:16-17 NKJV, Galatians 3:11 NKJV, and Hebrews 10:38 NKJV).

Those who are rightly-related to God live by faith.

What’s the Source of Authentic Faith?

Someone may say, “I have no faith” or “My faith is small.” Ever feel this way? No worries. Faith comes. It comes via his living voice as we grow to know God.

Abraham received promises from God. From time to time, God reaffirmed theses promises. This created and developed faith.

Paul wrote that faith comes from hearing. And hearing happens via the word or message of Christ (Romans 10:17).

So faith is initiated and sustained in the same way with us. As we hear the living voice of God — via the Word of God — faith surfaces.

Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.

Helen Keller

Even when we experience the words of God personally or through spiritual gifts, faith comes. And our faith continues to be energized by the present voice of God in our life.

Please know that when God communicates to us individually, it’s always within the truth and framework of the inspired Scriptures. Clarity is a high value with God. The Holy Spirit will not counter the written Word — the inspired scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

In the wilderness temptation, Jesus told the Devil … “Man does not live by bread alone (all that is natural), but by every word that proceeds (present, continuous action) from the mouth of God” (see Matt. 4:4).

So what is the source of Authentic Faith? The origin is God. More pointedly, it’s the present Voice of God to us in the context of relationship.

Voltage is an electrical potential difference, the difference in electric potential between two places. “Kingdom Voltage” is the potential power difference between heaven and earth. God is looking for Faith Connections.

Sounds Simpistic, But What Is Faith?

Faith is not a kind of personal force to create our own future apart from diligently seeking God.

The writer of Hebrews says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6 NASB).

  • Faith is coming to God — true faith is in the person of the One True God. Faith seeks God. It’s relational.
  • As we keep coming to God, he continues to reveal Himself AND his destiny for us. He expresses his thoughts to us. This incites faith in our hearts.
  • Our Personal Narrative fits within the Grand Narrative of God. He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Jesus stated, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). There is no True Faith apart from pursuing God. It’s not something we can work up to pursue our own ends.

Authentic Faith is beyond believing a promise of God. It’s faith in the One who makes the promise. See Mark 11:22-25 for Jesus’ concise, dynamic teaching on faith which gets results.

The bedrock of our faith is God’s integrity — His nature and attributes. Because we have faith in the One Who Promises, we can exercise faith in the Promise. We have faith in His word to us because we have confidence in the Living Word.

Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection] …”

Hebrews 12:2 AMP

Faith Is a Heaven & Earth Partnership

There is power in faith … because there is power in God and the Higher Design he is revealing. From Eden onward, the Creator is looking for partnership on the earth.

So as we know Christ more and more, hearing his voice to us, the power of Authentic Faith will flow into our personal world and the sphere of our influence.

The Creator always looks for partnership in the earth to manifest his design.

Are there any ways in which you’re challenged to re-think what authentic faith is? In what ways do you want to benefit from the power of faith?

This is Part #3 in the Questing with God series. Continue with the sequence to explore what it means to quest with God … and to quest after His Story for our lives. Topics include faith as “substance” of what will be, God-reality transcends the lower reality, over-the-horizon thinking and belief, and more.
