Go Deeper — Who Else Wants the Devil Impeached and Convicted?

“Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself. But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die (John 12:31-33).

Judgment has already been issued on the system of this world (Gk., kosmos). The ruler of this world will be cast out. And it’s all because of the overcoming work of Christ on the cross!

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (the Holy Spirit) will not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning … judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:7-8a, 11-12 NASB).

Notice Jesus said, “the ruler of this world has been judged.” John 16 was the night before his death. Judgment was already rendered in light of the cross, resurrection, and ascension to come.
